一 | Canberra, Oct 10 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Monday held broad ranging discussions with his Australian counterpart Penny Wong on the Ukraine conflict and its impact on the Indo-Pacific region.

The two addressed a joint press conference as they held the 13th India-Australia Foreign Ministers' Framework Dialogue here.

"We have discussed Ukraine and its repercussions in the Indo Pacific region, the progress in Quad, G-20 issues, our trilateral, some things related to IAEA and climate finance sustainable development goals," Dr Jaishankar said.

Wong said India and Australia should resolve issues in the Indo-Pacific region together.

"We spoke about a whole lot of issues -- trade, economy, education, defence and security, clean energy and among the many agreements and understandings we reached. It is in our mutual interest to expand the diplomatic footprint in each other's country," Jaishankar said.

During the 13th Foreign Ministers Framework Dialogue, the two Ministers took stock of the steady progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including important Ministerial visits in recent months and agreed to work closely together in Quad, trilaterals, G20, UN and other important forums.

"India and Australia are comprehensive strategic partners. We are Quad partners. We partner in many other ways... We don't want to see any country dominating and any country being dominated," said Wong.

Wong announced that Australia was looking to open a consulate general in Bengaluru "sometime next year."

The visit by Dr Jaishankar is his second to Australia this year. He came in February 2022 to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting in Melbourne.

Dr Jaishankar also met Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles.

"Exchanged views on regional and global security. Our growing defence and security cooperation ensures a peaceful, prosperous and rules based Indo-Pacific," he tweeted.

二 | 가정폭력 감찰 조사…징계위 회부되기도실종 신고를 허위 종결한 혐의로 구속된 현직 경찰관이 장미란(37)씨 사건을 허위 종결한 이후 실종자를 발견한 공로로 경찰청장 표창을 받은 것으로 파악돼 논란이 예상된다. 26일 국민의힘 박수민 의원실에 따르면 실종 허위 종결한 제주서부경찰서 부모(34) 경장은 지난 6월 26일 ‘실종 치매 노인 발견 유공’ 사유로 경찰청장 표창을 받았다.

실종사건을 허위 종결한 혐의(직무유기, 공전자기록 위작 및 행사, 위계공무집행방해)를 받는 부모 경장이 지난 25일 제주지방법원에서 구속 전 피의자 심문(영장실질심사)을 마치고 나오고 있다. 연합

장씨에 대한 실종신고를 허위로 종결한 지 한달여 지난 시점이다. 부 경장은 또 실종수사팀에 근무하던 2025년 9월 자살 기도자를 신속하게 발견한 공로로 경찰서장 표창을 받았다. 같은해 12월 제주경찰청장에게 연말 정기 표창을 받는 등 2020년부터 모두 10건의 상훈을 받은 것으로 파악됐다. 반면 시점은 특정되지 않았으나 부 경장은 가정 폭력으로 감찰 조사를 받아 징계위에 회부된 전력이 있는 것으로 드러났다. 부 경장은 경찰서 여성화장실에 몰래 들어간 혐의로도 조사를 받고 있다. 이러한 전력을 비춰보면 과거 상훈이 부풀려지거나 거짓일 가능성을 의심해 봐야 한다는 지적이 나온다. 앞서 부 경장은 지난 5월15일 ‘장씨가 숙소를 나간 뒤 연락되지 않는다’는 신고를 접수하고 2시간30여분만에 마치 장씨와 연락이 닿은 것처럼 허위 종결했다. 당시 부 경장은 신고자인 장씨의 남자친구에게 ‘장씨와 연락해 무사한 것을 확인했고, 위치 정보를 알리지 말라고 했다’는 취지로 설명하고 관련 기록을 삭제한 것으로 파악됐다. 또 지난달 2일 접수된 60대 남성의 실종 사건을 장씨와 비슷한 방식으로 허위 종결한 혐의를 받고 있다. 부 경장은 사건을 종결하며 실종자 프로파일링(경찰 실종자 관리) 시스템 관리 목록에서 장씨 자료를 삭제했다. 이때 부 경장은 실종자 프로파일링 시스템상 장씨 관련 자료를 삭제하려고 ‘교통사고 사상자’라는 코드를 선택했다. 비슷한 수법으로 허위 종결한 또 다른 실종 사망자 60대 남성의 경우 ‘소재 발견’으로 종결했다. 실종자 프로파일링 시스템에는 변사나 교통사고 사상자 등의 특별한 사유의 유형 코드를 선택해야 시스템 관리목록에서 관련 자료가 삭제된다.。
